Liverpool, 2 seasons ago they should have won the league, but losing games and leads they failed, then lose payers like Suarez who pretty much singlehandedly almost won them league then, Gerrard they finish 8th, sign Balotelli, failed and now this season they currently sit 8th with 3 wins out of a possible 7. Now, we asked ourselves when were Liverpool fans going to start voicing their frustrations, “you’re getting sacked in the morning” or the board speculating Rodgers’ future. Well, ladies and gentleman this week it happened. As Klopp and Ancelotti have been thrown around the rumour mill for Rodgers’ position, Liverpool gave Rodgers this weekend past and 10 days to show results. His job is literally on the line.

The pressure has never been greater for a man like Rodgers. Leading Liverpool to ‘almost’ EPL champions to really letting down their fans as their position on the table insult the teams image. This season has been very poor. Boring performances, not enough goals being scored and failed signings. #Balotelli.
Rodgers brought in  Brazilian young gun Firmino, Milner, Benteke, Bogdan, Clyne, Gomez and Ings. Many can say this has been a very busy window for Liverpool but a very mediocre group of men. We have all seen memes of Rodgers’ infatuation with signing Southampton players (Clyne, Lovren, Lambert, Lallana) and im still questioning these signings, Lovren against United this season, i know you are too.
Now, one man helping Rodgers with his job is Coutinho, what a player,  it is no reason why Neymar has said in his Barcelona press-conference that he would love to have Coutinho at Barca. His goals this season and last have either salvaged a draw or won games but the other 10 men on the field need to pull their weight also.

As the players entered Anfield you could really sense the tension within the stands or even myself watching the game knowing this result could either prolong or finish a managers job. But when the Kop started singing ‘YNWA’ you knew in that instance they were right behind this team.
Liverpool hosted Aston Villa in which they ran out 3-2 winners. The scoreline may make it seem like a tough, fought out match but in majority of the game Liverpool looked great, controlled the game in its entirety yet conceding 2 goals in the process highlighting the fragility at the back.

First Half

Sturridge and Ings kicked it off as Anflied went up in song to a first half of sheer dominance.
Possession was their game and also control.
As Lucas played infront of defense distributing the ball, winning tackles led to a pass to Moreno on the left flank who passed it Coutinho who cut inside to find Milner at the top of the 18 who’s first touch set up a volley in which he flashed to the bottom right corner leaving Guzan with nothing to do other than watch it enter the back of the net. 1′ Liverpool leads 1-0. It was really the ideal start for Liverpool. However, Rodgers didn’t even celebrate…….

Their dominance continued, now it was always tough as Villa played with a very deep line leaving Liverpool to really pick out and time their chances.
4′ Liverpool won a free kick, Moreno sent it in with that sweet left foot of his finding Can who could only flick it to the keeper.

5′ in, this was Coutinho’s game from the get go. Chasing the ball, asking for it and when he has Lucas behind him he has certainty he is protected.

6′ Villa only had 2 possible outlets on the field, Sinclair and Gestede. As Greaalish ran down the right, finding Amavi who then passed it to Gueye who crossed it into the box finding Gestede who could only head it wide. Their chances were really far and few between.

8′ and Liverpool continued with their high tempo attacking game. Ings was found on the top of the 18 who on a half turn could only fire his shot straight to Guzan.

15′ gone and i think we could all really see the true Liverpool showing their talents and capabilties to control matches. Their runs were fantastic, passing on point but just the final touch in patches of play let them down.

36′ gone, Coutinho cuts inside, drops his shoulder and fires a shot that looked towards goal took a wicked deflection at goal leaving Guzan tipping it over the bar.

As the first half came to a close, the score only read 1-0 almost flattering Villa to people who hadn’t watched the game. I’ve used the word ‘dominance’ but Liverpool bullied Villa as should have bagged a handful more. Milner was also their best player on the field. It almost seemed he was playing as a CAM but he was moving freely around the park, defending, attacking and ultimately scoring and almost doubling his tally but a volley that Guzan saved.

Second Half

Second half was no different. Again, controlled the ball, tried to unplug Villa’s bus and as Sturridge is fit and firing he on 59′ opened his account with a BEAUTIFUL volley, blasting it past Guzan. Liverpool 2-0.

Lucas continued bullying Traorè in the midfield making him again and always one of the best and underrated CDMs in the game.

66′ Hutton down the the right flank past Clyne, delivering a very dangerous cross past Sako, Gestede does very well to get past Can in the 6 and beautifuly places the ball in the back of net 3 yards out. Liverpool 2 Villa 1. Game on?

67′ Liverpool did not want to let this game slip (no i am not laughing at Gerrard’s “we won’t let this slip now)….so they replied immediately!
Phillipe Coutinho working within the box finding Sturridge who carefully places it in the right bottom corner with ease. Liverpool 3 Villa 1.

71′ Villa back in the game! Assisted by Amavi, delivering a great ball into the box finding Gestede again who fired the ball into the top of the goal scoring past Mingolet. Liverpool 3 Villa 2.

This game finished 3-2 and pretty much a great performance from Liverpool who in the end if we are to be reall picky should not have let Villa bag 2 goals in the manner y did.
It was fantastic to see Sturridge back out there doing what he does best, but in moments he looked tired. Time was needed for him to get back into an on-side position and pace. Now he did score 2 goals and pretty much eased the pressure off Rodgers he will be back to his original best. Leiva was commanding making the midfield his alongside Milner and Coutinho who deserve the fair mount of praise for this victory.

This result should not only help Liverpool carry out momentum into next week but Rodgers still needs to find whether he should be playing with 1 or 2 strikers…..having the options of Benteke, Sturridge and Ings really makes this difficult as all players want to be on the field.

The Merseyside derby is next week. Everton v Liverpool. We wonder if the Liverpool fans/board will take anything but a victory in this match as pride always wins.
