English Premier League 15/16

The EPL has finally graced our living rooms for another season and boy do i believe it will be the best one yet. I know, after every season everyone is stating “next season will be bigger and better!” and boy does it live up to it’s expectations of being “the best league in the world”. Signing have been coming like no tomorrow to sharpen, fasten and better top teams like, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. Bottom half teams have also strengthened, Stoke City, Sunderland, West Ham and Crystal Palace making the top and bottom half of the League table another fight till the end.

Week 1

The EPL could not have had a better opening day game than Manchester United v Tottenham

Hotspurs. Now that opening sentenced may have been more intriguing than the game itself and its true….

Manchester United have signed players left right and centre, Entering the ranks are, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Shweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero. These players were signed to strengthen a weak and disappointing Manchester United of 14/15 and lets just say it may take some time. Spurs on the other hand, took out more than the took in. New boys, Alderweireld, Alli, Trippier and Wimmer, outs, Assou Ekotto, Capoue, Chiriches, Friedel, Kaboul, Paulinho and Stambouli. Now lets get to the game.
United on paper played with a very strong XI. Depay has lived up to his hype, Playing in the Champions playoff against Club Brugge, scorung 2 goals and putting them a step closer to qualifying for the Champions League, However, in this game against a tough Spurs, United couldn’t quite unlock the back 4 and open the scoring. Even the score reads 1-0 it was an own goal by Kyle Walker. As the game started United were very nervous and looked disorientated with who to give the ball to to create and/or score! New boy Romero played with a lot of promise making sure the 1-0 scoreline stood till the very end and Spurs rallied as always till the death but could not build on their great start to win the game…
Eriksen for Spurs as always played great, the classy midfielder could have almost given Spurs the lead but Sergio saved and could have picked the ball out of his net many times after but as that Manchester United ‘luck’ it just didn’t go in!
Bastian entered the frame after the hour mark replacing Carrick and boy did the crowd roar! The World Cup winning midfielder came on and distributed the ball, controlled possession but United as a whole was missing something upfront and full blown striker.

Chelsea v Swansea

The champions are back!!! Chelsea finished last season on the high of highs, winning the league in great fashion with players like Hazard, Fabs, Courtouis, Terry leading the way who could have stopped them? Now this is a new year and we have no clue what could happen….
Swansea very respected team with stars of their own, Shelvey running the midfield with Sigurdson, Montero, Gomis and now Ayew, anything could have happened in this game and it did! The score ended up being 2-2 and where do i even begin? Okay, Oscar opened the scoring on 23′ Ayew levelled at 29′, Courtouis sent off at 52′, Gomis levelled at 55′ and game over. Sounds good hey? now what actually happened in between of all this!!!
Swansea dominated the game against the title defenders and let’s just chant “Who are ya, Who are ya!” because they looked nothing like the Chelsea side of 14/15 and let’s just imagine Mourinho….
Swansea played with a lot of courage at Stamford Bridge a fortress for the blues and a place where away teams don’t usually dominate…and could have one the game.
Courtouis was sent off for a challenge against Gomis (debate whether it was outside the box or in) landed the pen against a the home debut of Begovic (welcome), Gomis and Ayew look a very good partnership upfront and the don’t fail with putting off the CB’s and with their pace they are set to give havoc to whoever comes up against them in the next few weeks!
Now the drama, if you think the red card to Courtouis was it it’s not….deep in the second half, Hazard was challenged in the air and as players nowadays go to the floor very easy and at times are fantastic actors we as the public do not know the severity of the injury or if there is an injury at all as medics of the EPL are worried (why wouldn’t they be its their job to make sure the players are healthy) they run on the field, Eva Carneiro bursts onto the field (worried) to check up on Hazard, infurios Mourinho goes OFF on the sideline as to why she is there when the game is almost at a close and the team is fighting for a winner, Hazard is taken off to the sideline for treatment and…..they are left with 9 men..and as always its her fault because as a female she does not understand the game…Oh Mourinho you never seem to amaze anyone but maybe once keep your mouth shut…….
Witht the Chelsea drama, in this game it is Swansea who deserve all of the credit. They could not have started the campaign in better fashion sending a very strong message to the rest of the Premier League becauese the way they outplayed the ‘Champions’ and the way Montero left Ivanovic dizzy I think they are a force to be reckoned with. We hope they push on and achieve big things this season. (oh and Chelsea too)

Arsenal v Westham

A derby to begin the season at the Emirates Stadium, the script was written for itself. A Westham side who has strengthened very well with a new coach, Bilic, Obiang, Ogbonna, Payet and Randolph. Last years Hammers didn’t have the worst campaign under Big Sam but with their fantastic start last year top 6 at christmas they slipped (Gerrard reference) and slipped very sad with the performances they gave! Now, a new season and looking very good! You don’t just go to the Emirates and win 2-0 and go home..but they did! The gunners looked shaky and not all their. so goals by Zarate and Kouyate, the defensive performance by new boy Angelo Ogbonna they did their job very well.
Arsenal were very much in the game, you don;t just have 22 shots in a game but with only 6 on target…something is wrong. The defensive effort of the Hammers’ defense

blocked 7 of those so they clearly had ‘you shall not pass’ and Adrian did have a good game but not really tested.

Arsenal to its credit kept on pushing, a very good combination of Cazorla and Monreal almost created the opening but nothing. Ogbonna played very deep but defended very well and could not have had a better debut. Sadly, the likes of Ozil and Ramsey could not do anything, both looked boring and very much hovering ontop of eachother almost hogging positions and nothing, very bleak. Lets hope with a team Arsenal has we all do expect a lot more from Wengers men.

West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City

The highly anticipated return of Manchester City graced the grass of the Hawthorns. Pellegrinis men

looked like champions as they ran out winners scoring 3 goals and laters West Brom! Now, everybody was interested in one man and one man only. Raheem Sterling. However, collectively City looked like the city that won the league but how did they only finish second with a performance against Westbrom. Yaya Toure looked like the Toure of 2 seasons ago, atticking with purpose, retrieving strongly and how good is it to watch Yaya at his best! That’s Yaya,  the Magician, David Silva. The most underrated CM in the world. Born sadly in the wrong generation, Silva could have been the Xavi of Spain for years to come but had to wait his turn years later. City fans on the other hand, have had him grace our TV’s for 4 years and boy do we love him! His left foot does what it wants, threads balls to the stri-

kers as if “where’s the back 4?” one-twos make us drop our jaws and rethink “how?” and hes our gentleman.

Sadly West Brom couldn’t really deal with all of this City at once. Plying with little purpose, and lets face it who can stop a a newly rejuvenated City playing with so much and needing to perform after only falling 2nd to Chelsea last season, Revenge? Manchester City’s forward line  looked very compact and secure with one another, midfield very strong, Fernandinho looked good and fit, Sterling very effective, Kompany looked like Kompany of 2 seasons ago (thank god) plus on the score sheet. Away City wins 3-0  and going into the next game with heads high against a Chelsea side who looks very fragile, all we just have to do is wait and see how this blockbuster turns out.

Welcome newbies

Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich all came back to the Premier League and hats off to their great begining. Watford finished level against Everton away!, Bournemouth sadly lost 1-0 to Villa and Norwhich lost at home to a very classy Crystal Palace side 1-3. It was only the first game so all of the jitters can leave and the business rolls on for another week!
